A long established firm of chartered surveyors and estate agents in Sudbury has just been acquired by a rival company.

Thorntons, in Market Hill, has been bought by independently owned East Anglian estate agency Fenn Wright for an undisclosed sum.

The Sudbury business was created 26 years ago by Sam Thornton who will remain with the firm and joins the town team as associate partner.

He will join Graham Buxton, partner at Fenn Wright, in the management of the Sudbury branch.

He will be part of a team of eight staff - a mix of Thorntons and Fenn Wright employees, plus a few new faces from the area.

Mr Thornton, who has 30 years’ experience selling properties on the Suffolk/Essex border, said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the team at Fenn Wright.

“I don’t see it as a sad day that Thorntons is closing, I see it as an exciting step forward.

“I am delighted to still be in the heart of the local community.”

The acquisition of Thorntons forms part of Fenn Wright’s long term growth strategy to expand into Sudbury.

Alan Williams, managing partner at Fenn Wright, said: “The acquisition wholly complements our strategy to expand our branch network.”

“Sam is extremely well regarded; with his extensive knowledge of the local area, he provides an invaluable bridge between Fenn Wright and Sudbury, and is a familiar, friendly face for local residents.”

Mr Thornton and his team will be joining Fenn Wright at its new office which is currently being refitted, for the opening on December 12.

Members of the local community are welcome to pop in for a coffee and a chat in the modern and relaxing office.

The acquisition enhances Fenn Wright’s service along the A12 corridor and will be the firm’s eighth office.
