Lambs wool the world at Kentwell Hall in Long Melford
Do not forget to do an ewe-turn if you are driving past Kentwell Hall.
The Long Melford visitor attraction’s lambing weekend gives visitors a chance to see scores of newly-born lambs snuggled down in the hay at Kentwell’s Tudor stables and in fields on its working farm.
The resident flock of Norfolk Horn sheep at the hall – a rare breed – are in the middle of the lambing season, with 35 lambs born so far, many of which are twins. There are 100 ewes in lamb on the farm.
Alix Massey, marketing manager at the hall, said the first lamb was born a couple of weeks ago and some are now old enough to leave the stables with their mothers and go into nearby paddocks. She said: “We are also expecting one set of triplets.”
The event has brought in more visitors this year than last year, with organisers speculating that people are keen to get outside and have some fresh air.
Alix added: “In light of the government updates, Kentwell Hall will adhere to guidelines and restrictions.
“We are also following advise from Historic Houses, which has a meeting with government bodies on Tuesday.”
