Hunnaball Family Funeral Group marks completion of three-month refurbishment project at Sudbury branch




Leading East Anglia funeral directors Hunnaball Family Funeral Group has completed a three-month refurbishment project to modernise its Sudbury branch.

The premises, at New House in North Street, have been upgraded and redecorated and now include a chapel of rest.

Recently the company held an event to celebrate the completion of the refurbishment.

Hunnaball’s Sudbury community funeral director Helen Robertson led a procession along North Street which included a piper and a drummer.

With music by the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, the town’s mayor Robert Spivey, and his wife Hilary, officially reopened the revamped branch.

Surrounded by invited guests, the new chapel of rest was blessed by the Rev Margaret King,

Sudbury is one of 10 funeral homes owned by the Hunnaball Family Funeral Group, spread throughout Essex and Suffolk, including branches in Colchester, Braintree, Manningtree and Ipswich.

Established 36 years ago by Trevor and Melanie Hunnaball, the company has recently opened a second branch in Colchester. Other family directors are the couple’s children Saul, Chris and Polly.

The Sudbury branch is staffed by area manager Paul Martin, community funeral director Helen Robertson and funeral arrangers Ruth Housden-Knox and Jackie Kidby. The branch carries out around 70 funerals a year.

Hunnaball marketing manager Julie Johnson said: “We’ve been growing our network and have been established in Sudbury since 2004 where we have a good, solid team whose purpose is to serve local families and the community.

“We have a rolling programme of refurbishment of our branches to keep them up to date and modern, and this was Sudbury’s turn.

“Whilst undergoing the refurbishment, the staff were grateful to their clients for their patience and understanding.”

She added: “Sudbury has all the facilities of a modern funeral home, including family suites, a chapel of rest and bright and welcoming reception areas.”
