Greene King ‘extremely grateful’ no-one injured during fire at the Kings Head in Great Cornard, near Sudbury
A brewery has praised the ‘swift actions’ of staff and the emergency services after a fire at one of its pubs.
Fire crews were called to the Kings Head in Bures Road, Great Cornard, at about 7pm yesterday after reports of smoke from the roof and in the bar area.
Six engines from Suffolk Fire and Rescue, alongside an aerial appliance from Essex Fire and Rescue, tackled the blaze at the Greene King Pub Partner site.
No-one was injured and firefighters monitored the building overnight to check for hotspots, with the fire fully extinguished by 8.30am today.
The pub will remain closed until further notice.
A spokesperson for Greene King Pub Partners said: “We are extremely grateful for the swift actions of our partners at the King’s Head and the emergency services after a fire broke out at the pub last night.
“The most important thing is that no-one was injured. We need to fully assess the damage to the building and expect the pub to remain closed for the time being.
“The King’s Head is an important part of the community and we appreciate people’s support and understanding.
“We will update when our partner expects to welcome customers back into the pub when the time is right.”
Suffolk Police attended the scene to help with road closures but were not required to assist.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
