Further heavy rain warning for East of England issued by Met Office

Following Thursday’s downpours, heavy rain is expected​ across the East of England today (Friday August 14).

After a month’s rain fell in a few hours and caused flooding in some parts on Thursday, a second yellow Met Office warning has been issued, in place until 6pm, while the Environment Agency issued five flood alerts in the South East and four in the Midlands warning flooding was possible.

The Met Office’s Marco Petagna said: “The main trend through the day is for the rain to gradually push its way eastwards with brighter fresher conditions starting to move in from the west and that sort of sets the scene really for the weekend.

“A much quieter spell of weather - a lot of dry bright weather around this weekend. A few showers, mainly towards the north and west, but a lot of dry weather this weekend.

“Certainly a fresher feel to the weather compared to the last couple of days,” the forecaster said.

On average, 51.6mm of rain falls throughout the entire month of August.

Any rain will fade during Friday evening, confined to eastern areas by the end of the night.

On Saturday, although rain may affect the far east at first, most will have a fine day. Showers will develop across northwestern areas, locally heavy across Western Scotland. Fresher in the southeast. Highs of only 14 to 18°C.

Sunday will be largely fine with bright or sunny spells and only isolated showers, with temperatures reaching only the high teens.
