Sudbury fundraisers make poignant journey in memory of Woodhall Primary School pupil Stephen Pinder

A crowd of pink-shirted fundraisers made a poignant journey over the weekend, in memory of a late Sudbury schoolboy.

The Woodhall Primary School community lit up the early spring sunshine on Saturday, as they united for their special ‘Steps for Stephen’ fundraiser.

Setting off from the Henny Swan pub at 11.30am, the group marched 10 kilometres to The Swan in Long Melford, collecting donations for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (Each).

The walk was organised in honour of Woodhall pupil Stephen Pinder, who died last year after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

The school decided to rally behind Stephen’s family to raise money and awareness for Each, which supported them during the seven-year-old’s final months.

Each participant on the fundraising walk wore a specially-made shirt provided by Sudbury-based company Named4You, with a picture of Stephen displayed.

Harriet French, Year 5 teacher at Woodhall Primary School, paid tribute to the level of support throughout the day.

“We had such great support from the local community in Sudbury and Long Melford,” she said. “Lots of passers-by put cash in our buckets and the Swan had teas and coffees waiting for us.”
