Frequent fundraiser from Sudbury braves the shave in support of St Nicholas Hospice Care

The coronavirus epidemic may have dealt a blow to Chris Rix’s rowing plans, but it hasn’t stopped his fundraising activities.

Chris, a resident of Alpheton, has raised £560 for St Nicholas Hospice Care after having his head and beard shaved at Medleys in Sudbury.

A member of Sudbury Rowing Club, Chris, who has cerebral palsy, is currently unable to use the specially-adapted single scull at the club, because of Covid-19 social distancing regulations.

Instead, the 35-year-old has been training at home, using an adapted rowing machine to keep fit, along with regular sessions at Zest Health and Fitness in Sudbury.

Chris, a familiar face among the staff at the town’s Tesco supermarket, said: “I like to help charities when I can and I was happy to do it.”

He added that both his hair and his beard are now growing again, ready for the next fundraiser.
