Maddy Campbell's family and friends 'horrified' as trolls use Sudbury beautician's death as an 'anti-vaccine' story
Family and friends of Sudbury beautician Maddy Campbell, who died in her sleep in September, have been left 'horrified' as online trolls try to use her death as an 'anti-vaccine' story.
The 17-year-old died on September 14 with a postmortem returning an inconclusive result meaning no clear cause of death has been established.
However, Maddy's father, Chris Campbell, has spoken out after being inundated with 'anti-vaccine' messages implying his daughter's death was a result of the Covid-19 vaccine when in fact Maddy hadn't received either dose.
Posting to Instagram on Thursday, Chris said: "Keep your vile lies and incorrect assumptions to yourselves.
"Maddy was loved by so many people, a love that some of you with such awful opinions will never feel.
"Anybody spreading such rumours should hang their heads in shame.
"Please allow us, Maddy's family and close friends, to grieve and recover from this devastating time in our lives and let our beautiful Madison rest in peace," he added.
Lipstick and Locks, the hair and beauty salon where Maddy worked, also released a public statement on behalf of her family, urging people to end the trolling.
"We are horrified to hear that people are trying to use Maddy's death as an ‘anti vaccine’ news story," they wrote on social media.
"Maddy would not wish to have her name used to dissuade people against having the vaccine.
"I would like to confirm that Maddy had neither doses of the Covid vaccine, her unexpected death was in no way linked.
"We would appreciate no more calls or messages of this manner whilst we grieve the loss our beautiful Maddy."
This comes after Chris Campbell spoke to Suffolk News about the difficult fortnight he and his family have had since Maddy's death.
"I’ve always been there for her, like I am for all of my children, and not being there for her in that moment is heartbreaking, but the fact that she passed away peacefully in her sleep gives me some comfort," he said.
