The owner of an animal sanctuary and rescue centre in Hadleigh has made a desperate plea to land owners – with only one week to secure a new site.

French’s Care Haven provides a safe environment for sick and abandoned animals at its centre on French’s Farm, in Pond Hall Road.

Founder Jann Turner launched an appeal in search of a new site earlier this year, after the land the charity has leased for the past 11 years was sold to new owners, who plan to convert it into a caravan and holiday park.

Despite Ms Turners’ efforts, her appeal came to no avail, putting the future of the centre, which cares for 14 horses and ponies, plus four donkeys, in jeopardy.

“I have been here for 11 years,” said Ms Turner. “It’s devastating. I’m living a nightmare.”

She explained that land owners who may be hesitant to come forward could benefit from the partnership.

“I plan to make a go of anything that is run down; and put care into maintaining it to a high standard,” said Ms Turner, who invested her time and savings in expanding the centre from what was once a derelict building.

The charity is also committed to continuing its rehabilitation scheme, which provides vulnerable people with opportunities to develop skills through animal care, growing vegetables and craft workshops.

Despite the situation having reached a critical stage, Ms Turner is determined to stay positive.

“I’m not a quitter,” she said. “I don’t give up and I will fight to keep it going.”

Should the charity have no luck in securing a new site by Friday, June 8, Ms Turner hopes the owner will extend the moving date.

An online funding appeal has been set up to raise money to help with any move.
