Sudbury-based EO Escape Rooms wins innovation accolade at East of England Small Business Awards

A family-run escape room centre is celebrating a prestigious regional award, as its founders outlined their ambition to continue innovating the experiences they offer.

EO Escape Rooms in Sudbury earned top recognition at the annual East of England Small Business Awards earlier this month.

During the ceremony at the Radisson in Stansted, the EO team picked up the Innovation Award – presented to businesses which push the boundaries in their products, services or practices.

The accolade backs up the innovation prize that the venue achieved at last year’s Suffolk Small Business Awards.

Kelly Goodchild, who set up and designed EO Escape Rooms with her brother Richard Burnham, shared their delight at the latest recognition.

“This latest award is a testament to the hard work, passion and creativity we pour into every room we design,” she said.

“It is a team effort between us, Sam, Lily and Kodi.

“We’re incredibly proud to be recognised among the best small businesses in the region.

“We strive to push the boundaries of escape room experiences, ensuring that every visitor leaves with a sense of excitement and achievement.

“Winning this award is an honour and motivates us to continue innovating.”

Based on Woodhall Business Park, EO Escape Rooms consists of various original interactive settings that are built from scratch by Richard and Kelly.

In each of these scenarios, guests work together to solve different puzzles, riddles and challenges in order to progress, and eventually reach the exit.

Having launched at the end of the Covid-19 lockdown, the business has accumulated strong ratings on Escape The Review, a website for escape room enthusiasts.

Last year, the website ranked EO as the top escape room experience in the east of England, while one of its scenarios, titled ‘Scary Tale’, was rated as the region’s best individual game.
