Aldi has announced that it is looking to recruit up to three apprentices for its Sudbury store.

A spokesman for the company said it was looking to recruit over 650 apprentices nationwide during 2015, but said less than half of people asked in a recent survey were aware of apprenticeships within the retail sector.

During the three-year scheme apprentices will be trained in all aspects of retail management.

The scheme offers Store Assistant training in year one and store management training in years two and three, with a wage of £5.30 per hour rising to £7.63 per hour.

Successful apprentices will be offered a deputy manager position upon completion of the course, and can progress onto assistant store manager.

Aldi store apprentices will also achieve a retail apprenticeship Level 3 qualification.

Regional managing director Ruth Doyle, said: “It’s very encouraging to see that apprenticeships are now getting the credit they deserve.

“With increasing university tuition fees making it harder for young people to attend university, students are now seeing the benefits of the chance to earn while they learn, while gaining invaluable on-the-job experience.

“Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for young people to learn alongside talented and driven individuals and receive plenty of support and training.

“The Aldi Apprentice Scheme will create hundreds of opportunities across the UK for young people who want to learn invaluable skills that will set them apart from the rest and lead to a successful career in retail.”
