Christmas meal at Sudbury Town Hall brings festive cheer to over-65s

Members of the community soaked up the festive spirit during an annual Christmas-themed event hosted in Sudbury this week.

Organised by the town council, 116 people aged 65 and over were treated to a traditional three-course meal.

Hosted at the town hall on Monday, the event was designed to combat loneliness over the festive season by encouraging residents to socialise.

“They really enjoyed it,” said deputy town clerk Jodie Budd. “There was a great atmosphere.”

Jointly sponsored by 1OakCare and Sudbury resident Graeme Weir, the food was provided by The Loft in Gaol Lane.

After the meal, guests were treated to a selection of traditional Christmas carols performed by musician Steve Beadle, from Great Waldingfield, followed by a performance from the choir at Woodhall Primary School in Mayflower Way.

Staff from Nestle Purina in Sudbury were among the volunteers who helped at the event.

Mrs Budd added: “The community spirit in Sudbury is really good and it’s an event that people enjoy attending each year.”
