Lavenham Royal British Legion club gains £1,600 helping hand after volunteer’s sponsored endurance cycle ride
A gruelling cycling endurance challenge helped to rally a village’s support for a struggling community club, raising more than £1,600.
Becky Croucher cycled for eight hours non-stop on a static bike at the Royal British Legion (RBL) Club in Lavenham on Saturday, as part of a fundraising drive in support of the venue.
The long-standing club has felt the financial squeeze in recent times, due to increased utility bills causing the facility’s running costs to rise significantly.
Taking place alongside a darts tournament, the sponsored ride saw Becky, who has been connected to the club from a young age, travel the equivalent of 101 miles.
Jo Cleverley, bar manager at the Lavenham RBL Club, told SuffolkNews: “The event was outstanding.
“The legion was packed, nice and busy all day, which we were pleased to see. We were very happy with the turnout.
“Becky was amazing, and was supported by our staff, members, darts tournament guys, and visitors.
“From everyone at the club, we can’t thank her enough for what she has done for the club.
“I would also like to say a huge thank you to those that attended for the darts tournament.
“There was a great turnout and support, and we hope to see them back again next year.”
The venue’s next event is a Hallowe’en themed family fancy dress party this Saturday, from 5pm.
