Hillside Care Home, in Kings Hill, Great Cornard, near Sudbury, could be demolished as part of redevelopment plans

Plans to redevelop a Suffolk care home have been lodged.

Caring Homes Group has submitted plans with Babergh District Council which would see the current Hillside Care Home, in Kings Hill, Great Cornard, demolished.

The home, which has 44 beds, according to its website, would be replaced with a new 75-bed home, access, car parking and landscaping.

The application from Caring Homes Group states: “A new care home could have the benefits of providing additional residential spaces within a highly sustainable location.

“It would improve accessibility and facilities within the care home, providing an energy-efficient building.”

It adds: “We are confident that the proposed development will provide significant benefits to the local community, particularly by addressing the growing need for high-quality care facilities in the area.”

Concerns have been raised however by the council’s environmental protection over noise levels at the planned home, which would face on to the road.

The officer has called for an assessment to be carried out to determine likely internal and external noise levels.

The assessment would also be required to look into potential noise levels generated by planned air-source heat pumps at the home.

The officer has called for a written scheme that specifies the level of external lighting, as well as a construction management plan.

Currently, the site is occupied by two existing care homes: Hillside Care Home, which would be demolished prior to work beginning, and Mellish Dementia Care Home, with a staff house to the south.

A pre-planning application for a 67-bed care home was previously supported.
