Authorities working to resolve illegal traveller encampment in Sudbury
Another illegal traveller encampment has appeared in Sudbury this week, with local authorities confirming they are working to resolve the situation.
Reports from members of the public began on Monday that an unlawful camp had been set up on land near to Middleton Road.
Suffolk Police has stated it is currently collaborating with Sudbury’s community wardens, partner agencies and other authorities to try to find a resolution, under the agreed-upon county-wide protocols developed by Suffolk County Council, around dealing with unauthorised and unlawful encampments.
This incident is the third time a traveller camp has emerged in the town this year.
In March, a large travelling group parked around a dozen caravans in the car park of the Kingfisher Leisure Centre off Station Road, and stayed there for four days before departing the town.
In May, two caravans arrived on land near to residential properties in Clermont Avenue, remaining in place for about a week.
