A series of suspected thefts, in which money is thought to have been stolen from several homes, has led in a police appeal for witness information.

Suffolk Police has received numerous reports from residents of south Suffolk, who left out tips for refuse collectors ahead of the Christmas period, and who now believe their money may have been stolen by an unknown offender.

All of the incidents are thought to have occurred after dark, between Monday, December 17 and Friday, December 21, with thefts reported in Sudbury, Long Melford, Great Cornard, Stoke-by-Nayland, Groton, Edwardstone, Milden, and Lindsey.

Officers are now urging people who wish to give tips to refuse collectors should either ensure they are left out during hours of daylight, or to hand them to the collectors directly.

Anybody with information about the thefts, or who may have CCTV footage of suspicious activity during the dates stated, should contact police on 101, quoting the reference number 37/73974/18.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
