Sudbury air rifle enthusiast strives to serve hobby with new business DB Gunstocks
A lifelong enthusiasm for air rifle shooting has transformed into a new Sudbury business, aimed at serving those who share the hobby.
DB Gunstocks is the latest addition to Stour Valley Business Centre, in Brundon Lane, focused on the market for legal-limit air rifles and pistols.
Founded by Dorrien Bree and Sharon Buckler, the company offers hand-manufactured rifle stocks, trigger guards, butt plates and maintenance or cleaning stands.
It also plans to branch out into trading classic-era spring guns and servicing sub-legal-limit air rifles or pistols in the coming months – pending the outcome of a registered firearms dealer (RFD) application.
Mr Bree said he picked up his passion for air rifle shooting as a child from his dad, a military veteran who served in the Royal Navy and Territorial Army.
He said he wanted to fill a gap in the market, indicating there had been a lack of services for air rifle and pistol users in the Sudbury area.
“Everyone we speak to either shoots or knows someone who shoots,” he said. “The hobby is quite poorly served in our area.
“We got the unit at the Stour Valley Business Centre back in January but I was working in my previous job until April, so since then we’ve been fitting it out.
“For the first few months we would like to be in a position where we’re receiving regular customer orders, up until we receive the RFD licence.
“Our aim is to grow the business and the brand, so that one day we will effectively be able to hand it over and sell it on.
“From the initial response on online forums there has been a good spark of initial interest. Once I get the RFD licence, I foresee that part of the trade being the main part of the business.”
