Walsham-le-Willows church clock back to former glory
A 19th Century clock dial at a Walsham-le-Willows church has been restored thanks to the village’s open gardens trust.
The group, which was unable to hold its 40th annual event in August, raised the money from its previous years.
Collen Baker, church warden, said: “The clock is the villages life's blood; it can be heard throughout our parish and still today governs time for all of us who live in Walsham.
"To see the large clock face shining, totally restored and lifted up the tower back to its former glory for another 140 odd years keeps up the duty of care from our current generation.
“We are indeed blessed that with such workmanship, beautifully engineered precision time pieces still serve us today.”
According to an 1877 Bury Free Press article, the clock was a gift from Hopper Jnr. Wilkinson Esq and it said that the donor started the clock on November 13 that year.
