Sandwich shop in 57 Recreation Road, Stowmarket, could become retail outlet under new plans
A town sandwich shop could become a retail outlet with longer trading hours under new plans.
Mr Muthukumaru Govindah has applied to Mid Suffolk District Council to have 57 Recreation Road, in Stowmarket, used as a retail shop and extend its hours.
At present, the site is conditioned for use as a sandwich shop and café between 6am and 5pm Monday to Sunday.
Under the proposals, these hours would change to 6am to 10.30pm seven days a week.
A planning statement said the retail plan returns it to its intended use to serve the area and would remove the hot food/café element.
The statement argued having longer hours would better meet the needs of the shop’s customers, where residents and workers want greater flexibility for convenience as many need access to it later than 5pm.
It said this would support business viability and allow it to compete with other outlets in the community.
The statement said many customers visit the shop for lottery, PayPoint and Payzone services, which contribute greatly to its revenue and extending the hours would boost the shop.
