Rattlesden Gliding Club near Stowmarket encourages women to give gliding a go at special event
A Suffolk gliding club is encouraging women and girls to give the sport a go later this month.
Rattlesden Gliding Club, near Stowmarket, prides itself on its ability to nurture new pilots and has members as young as 12 and others who are in their 90s.
A special Go Gliding event, supported by the British Gliding Association, will take place on Sunday, June 23, at Rattlesden Airfield.
Sarah Lee, from Rattlesden Gliding Club, said: “Women are very under represented in aviation.
“The event is being held to showcase what’s available to them and what they can achieve.
“No strength is required and gliding is open to anyone, including women, who want to learn something new and challenging in a friendly environment.”
Sienna Hunter first went solo at the club when she was 14 and is continuing her flying training, juggling it with her school studies.
The teenager is aiming to take up a career in aviation as a private pilot and travel the world.
Sienna said: “Some of my family including my grandad have been gliding for years.
“Gliding allows me to build my flying hours and I get the thrill and a huge amount of joy out of it.”
