Stowmarket High School to remain closed due to issues with water supply

A secondary school will remain closed tomorrow after being left with no heating or hot water.

Stowmarket High School was forced to shut today and had called engineers who were unable to fix the issue.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Lucie Hernandez said: “Unfortunately, after liaison with our trust, we have been forced to make the decision to close the school tomorrow.

“We are still experiencing difficulties with our water supply, specifically hot water. “

She said while closing the school was the last thing they wished to do, they had taken guidance from several sources and contacted the Department for Education and Public Health England.

“We are endeavouring to fix this issue immediately, ensuring we can attempt to secure a full school opening from Wednesday, April 24,” said Ms Hernandez.

“In doing so, we currently have contractors and engineers, in school, tackling the issue, including sourcing relevant parts.

“Furthermore, we will continue to provide online learning for all students tomorrow.”
