Langams in Market Place, Stowmarket, thanks customers ahead of closure

The owner of a town centre coffee shop is thanking customers for their ‘tremendous support’ ahead of closure.

It was announced on Friday that Langams in Market Place, Stowmarket, would be closing its doors after the building was put up for sale on Right Move.

Jo Frogley opened the café in July 2019 and wants customers to know that Langams will remain open until a buyer is found.

She said: “I wanted to personally say a massive thank you for everyone’s kind messages regarding the sale of the shop.

“Langams is still very much trading and will remain open for the foreseeable future.

“Who would have predicted the pandemic, rising costs, electricity and all the other problems that have gone over the last few years, but we survived with your fantastic support.

“It is with a heavy heart that we will close our doors when and if a buyer is found.

“We have met some amazing people, some who have become good friends.

“Thank you again for the tremendous support we have had for our small family run business. We wouldn’t be here today without you.”

Langams was experiencing some drains issues on Friday and Saturday which saw the shop close early – however, the problem has now been fixed and the café will be open as normal from 9.30am tomorrow.

In September, SuffolkNews reported on a business collaboration between Langams and Heart of Suffolk Distillery which would see the coffee shop transformed into a wine bar in the evenings.

The venue has since hosted many popular quizzes and Boozy Bingo nights, however the distillery co-owners Tom Mills and Ryan Luke have decided to step away to focus on other ventures – including their other bar, The Secret Distillery in Short Brackland, Bury St Edmunds.

In a social media post, they said: “After much deliberation, we recently made the difficult decision to step away from running Langams Wine Bar and focus on the other ventures we are driving on.

“We have loved our time in Stowmarket and cannot thank everyone enough for their support of us since we opened.”

The wine bar’s last day of trading will be Saturday, May 25 and it will continue trading as usual until then.
