“I am pleased that they are now able to take their next steps in further education, apprenticeships or their chosen careers.”

Among those who picked up their results today were twins Tommy and Elsie Chapple, 18.

Tommy said he was now one step closer to realising his childhood ambition of becoming a lawyer after achieving an A in sociology, a B in history and a C in politics.

“Since Year 7 I have wanted to go into law at university and to take the bar exam,” he said.

“I’ve wanted to do it since I was very young, and this will help me towards reaching my goal.

“I’m planning to go to either Manchester Metropolitan or the University of East Anglia to study law next.

“It has been a nervous summer waiting for results, so today is a relief.

“But I am also feeling very grateful for all the support I have received from my teachers.

“I’m very excited about going to university and what happens next.”

Elle Cracknell, 18, achieved a double distinction in health and social care and an A in biology.

She plans to study human biology at Loughborough University.

“I am a bit emotional this morning,” she said, “I am feeling really good, relieved and happy with myself.

“I worked so hard, incredibly hard, so today really feels like that hard work has paid off.

“I’m really sad to leave the school and will really miss my teachers – they have supported me so much through my studies.”

Friends Courtney Miles, Leah Morris and Molly Gill, all 18, said they were excited to have secured the grades they were looking for.

Leah said: “I am buzzing, I’m so glad the wait for my results is over, I’m really happy.

“I achieved the results I was looking for so I can now study children’s nursing at the University of Suffolk.

“It’s a three-year course and I can’t wait to get started.”

Mr Walker added: “My thanks to our staff who have nurtured and supported them throughout their time here.

“We send our best wishes to all of our students for the future.”
