Storm Ciarán: A14 westbound from J47 Woolpit to J45 Blackthorpe, towards Bury St Edmunds, closed due to flooding




A section of Suffolk’s major carriageway was closed due to flooding as a result of Storm Ciarán.

The A14 westbound from Junction 47 at Woolpit to Junction 45 at Blackthorpe, towards Bury St Edmunds, has been shut by Highways East.

There is also congestion backing up towards Stowmarket, exacerbated the roadworks infrastructure in place.

A spokesperson from National Highways said that the A14 from Junction 46 was impassible due to flooding, with crews from the organisation dispatched to the scene to assist police with the closure and relieve the spillage with pumping equipment.

Officers from Suffolk Police attended the scene.

Congestion also built on other routes, including the A1088 towards Norton and Tostock, as drivers seek alternative routes.

The slip road onto the A14 at Woolpit was remains congested.

The road has now partially reopened from Junction 47 at Woolpit to junction 46 at Beyton, however traffic officers remain at the scene.
