Sheep shot and injured at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, near Stowmarket, gives birth to twins

A resilient sheep that survived being shot while grazing in a field has made a full recovery and has welcomed twins into the world.

The incident was on Sunday, September 29 at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, near Stowmarket, which prompted a police investigation.

There were concerns at the time that the traumatic event might impact the farm’s lambing season — but fortunately, the sheep has overcome the odds by returning to full health and giving birth to twins.

Farm manager Kate Ockleton said: “We are all really pleased that she’s been able to produce her twins safely and that’s fully healed and happy.

“We can tell she loves her babies very much so it’s just amazing to see her now — she’s definitely a proud mum.

“We’ve had a few visitors come by who wanted to see her in particular so that’s been really lovely.”

Kate said Suffolk Police’s Rural Crime Team investigated the incident and they suspect the injury may have been caused by a crossbow bolt.

However, no further action was taken and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

The farm is open to visitors daily from 10am to 5pm with more information available here.

It is also running ‘Lamb Cuddling’ sessions until February 23.
