Stowmarket High School’s sell-out production of We Will Rock You has been ‘amazing experience’ for students
Nearly 60 high school students have been involved in an ‘amazing’ production of the hit musical ‘We Will Rock You'.
Enjoying a four-day run last week, the show staged by Stowmarket High School was a sell out every evening.
In total, 57 students were involved, ranging from Year 7 to Year 11.
Drama teacher Becky West wanted to share the students’ ‘amazing work’.
Sophie Rogers, who played Scaramouche, said: “This show has been an incredible experience. We are so lucky to be able to put on these amazing shows.
“My favourite part of the show is the fact that the cast is full of such talented but also genuinely nice people. I’ve made so many new friends and built relationships with people I would have never spoken to before.
“Shows like this bring people together, that’s part of the reason that theatre is so life changing.”
Flynn Tasker, who played Galileo, said: “Being in a school production is a privilege most schools don't get, we are one of the lucky few that do and I'm so grateful to be a part of that.
“Balancing GCSE revision along with rehearsals was tough but the teachers at Stowmarket High School always made every rehearsal a safe and welcoming environment.
“One of my favourite moments from a time in rehearsals is when we finally got the set in and saw our production come to life over a short week.
“This show helped me develop my vocal range all throughout rehearsals which will help me further into college at CTC. I will never forget my time doing productions at Stowmarket High School, and I'm so grateful I got to have this opportunity.”
Isabelle Beckley, who played Killer Queen, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of creating our 'We Will Rock You' production.
“It has been really fun to develop my character of Killer Queen with my sister and I've really enjoyed the atmosphere the cast created.
“Everyone was extremely friendly, and we are all there for the same passion which allowed us to make progress really quickly while having lots of fun.
“I have met new people who I might not have necessarily ever talked to and I will always love performing with them.
“The staff’s support helped us all to create an amazing production, build our confidence, and improve our skills. I cannot wait for next year’s production, and the next ones to come.”
The production was directed and choreographed by Mrs West, Tash Rea, head of drama, and Ashleigh Hewitt, history teacher.
It is the school’s third production, following on from Matilda and Annie.
On March 24, the school invited the local primary schools to come and watch the dress rehearsal.
