Stowmarket mum still critical after A1088 crash near Euston - as support fund launched
The family of a woman who was left with life-threatening injuries following a car crash say they have been overwhelmed with support.
Annie Thompson, 35, from Stowmarket, was returning home with her two children from a camping holiday near Sheringham, Norfolk, when the accident happened on August 17.
Her Audi A6 was involved in a two-car crash, on the A1088, near Euston, just after 7pm.
Ms Thompson, a mental health worker, suffered life-threatening injuries and the single-mum has been in a critical condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, ever since.
Her 17-year-old daughter was also seriously injured in the accident but is now in recovery. Her five year-old son suffered minor injuries.
A man in his 40s, who was driving the second vehicle, an Audi A4, died at the scene.
Ms Thompson’s sister, Bex Thompson, has now launched a fund-raising drive to help support her sister. It raised more than £2,000 in the first 24 hours and stands at £5,817.
Bex Thompson said: “Annie is still very very poorly in intensive care.
“The doctors are positive but it is going to be a long road ahead.
“We are raising the money to help her family, now and in the future. Annie was very popular. We are overwhelmed by the support, and would like to thank everyone.”
Ms Thompson’s mum, Lynne, who had been on holiday with the family, was driving behind her daughter when the accident happened.
Police, ambulance crews and an air ambulance attended.
Suffolk Police are appealing for witnesses or any dashcam footage.
