Customers bid farewell to Stowmarket shop owner, Jill Sainsbury, before final closure of Handy Hardware, in Ipswich Street

Customers have been flocking to a town centre shop to bid farewell to the owner before she shuts the doors for the last time.

Jill Sainsbury, 54, announced the closure of Handy Hardware, in Ipswich Street, Stowmarket, in April having worked in the same building since 2007 when it was Savers before transforming into Diss Discount.

She took over the business in 2018 to sell a range of DIY products and homeware – however, she is now leaving the town and shop behind to follow her dream of moving to Derbyshire.

The shop is due to shut at 4pm today and customers have been enjoying the final sale, with everything for £2 or less.

Jill said: “I’m happy to be moving, but I’m very sad to be saying goodbye. It’s very emotional.

“But I know I’m doing the right thing. I’m excited for my next adventure.

“Thank you to all the loyal customers and to those who have been coming today to say their goodbyes.”
