In a social media post from Halesworth Fire Station, a spokesman said, with the help of colleagues from Wrentham, Southwold, Lowestoft and Beccles, they worked extremely hard throughout the night to bring the fire under control and stop the spread to other buildings.

Ferry Road, which leads to the scene, was closed today and the public was asked to avoid the area.

This video of the fire was taken at about 1am today by K Godward, who heard two loud bangs.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

A fire service spokesman said: “Sadly, owing to their wooden construction the fire spread throughout the buildings and some have been destroyed, with others badly damaged.”

Crews used four light portable pumps, 10 main jets and three ground monitors.

Investigators were due on scene today but the fire was not thought to be suspicious.

In a social media post this morning, Mrs T’s Fish and Chips said they were completely heartbroken.

They thanked firefighters for all their hard work throughout the night to put the blaze out.

In a post tonight, they added: “All of the staff at Mrs T's would like to thank each and every one for your kind words of support today.

“We haven't been able to answer everyone yet, but we have seen all your messages, and we are blown away with the amount of love we have received.

“The fire investigators have been working hard to find the cause of the blaze, so hopefully, we will know soon.”
