Westhall Charity FC’s latest match for Waveney Deaf Children’s Society at Southwold FC raises £600

A charity football match raised £600 for a children’s society at the weekend.

Westhall Charity FC played out a game at Southwold Football Club on Saturday in aid of the Waveney Deaf Children’s Society.

The team, which was formed by William Bird two years ago after a memorial match for Wes Foster, chose the charity for this game as it is very close to the Foster family.

Westhall Charity FC supports a different cause with every game it plays.

Mr Bird said: “We had the pleasure raising an incredible £600 for Ann and all those involved with the charity on Saturday at Southwold common.

“Before the match we all had a team photo by Ian who also taught us a bit of sign language.

“After this the match began in silence to raise the awareness and everyone was fantastic during this.

“The rest of the match played out with some great football and laughs captained by Lauren Bird and Jos Foster and finished 4-3 to the Yellows.”

Mr Bird thanked Southwold FC for its hospitality and support, adding that without this events like these cannot happen.

He also expressed his gratitude to Sizewell sports and social club, Wenhaston FC, Spexhall FC and Adventure Island indoor pitch for hosting us.

Westhall’s next game will be the brain tumour memorial match on August 3 at Wenhaston, with plenty of fun planned alongside the football.

Mr Bird continued: “Everyone who plays in these fundraising events are exceptional and represent the team so well.

“We get lovely feedback about the team being so friendly and inclusive so thank you all for your efforts and playing for the great causes every time.

“I hope to see plenty of new players and supporters as we continue with everyone welcome of all abilities and genders over 16.”

Waveney Deaf Children’s Society has a range of events coming up including a day out at Africa Alive on July 7 and a beach and ice cream day on August 3.

Mr Bird encouraged anyone who wishes to get involved with the society to get in touch with them.

The team is sponsored by a range of businesses including Attik, GBS, Westhall Racehorse, Truck and Plant Engineering, Jefford and Partners, Britten Construction, MRWCF, Hair Affair, C.W.Ellis Halesworth Ltd and SJ Geomatics.
