Hayley Rowlands, of Aldringham, near Leiston, impresses judges on The Great Pottery Throw Down
A Suffolk woman has made it through to the next round of a popular Channel 4 TV show.
Hayley Rowlands, 55, of Aldringham cum Thorpe, near Leiston, once again showed off her ‘more is more style’ tonight on the second episode of the new series of The Great Pottery Throw Down.
In the lead up to the challenges, she showed off the hand-made pottery in her garden, including a whale vertebra.
For the main task, the contestants were tasked with creating a mantlepiece clock based on memories with family, into which a clock would be inserted
While some commemorated beloved family dogs or their homes, Hayley chose to pay tribute to a holiday to Cornwall in 1999.
She said: “In 1999, we took a trip to Cornwall to see the solar eclipse.
“It was this really awesome moment where the world stood still.”
Her ‘busy, more is more design’ design impressed judges and the clock fit, securing her place in next week’s episode.
Hayley came in ninth place in this week’s surprise challenge, during which the hopefuls were tasked with creating identical candlesticks – while blindfolded.
Many of the contestants were stunned by judge Keith Brymer Jones’ abilities before they got under way.
Hayley was seen struggling to manage with the blindfold, stating: “It’s not quite the shape he was hoping for.”
Chris, with his sculpture’s structural issues, and Olivia were eliminated by the judges, while Steve was crowned potter of the week.
Hayley came 12th in last week’s episode.
The Great Pottery Throw Down returns next Sunday.
