The Ship at Dunwich, near Southwold, ranked among best UK winter pubs by The Guardian
A seaside Suffolk venue has been ranked among the best winter pubs in the UK.
The Ship at Dunwich, near Southwold, part of the Chestnut Group, was listed by The Guardian in its ‘20 of the best UK pubs with bedrooms, for lunch and a winter walk’ article.
The rankings included venues from all across Great Britain, from Cheshire to Devon and Gwynedd to Fife.
The Ship is a stone’s throw from Dunwich beach.
Rebecca Roberts, general manager at The Ship, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have been recognised by The Guardian.
“The Ship at Dunwich can sometimes be more associated with summer due to our proximity to the beach, just 50 yards from our front door.
“However, what could be better than winter beach walk, followed by a visit to our incredible old smugglers' pub to enjoy hearty food, real ales and wines, with great service from our long-term team – all in front of a roaring log fire in our cosy bar.”
The Guardian highlighted The Ship’s casement windows and beamed bar with a wood burner, as well as highlighting its season-capturing menu.
This included a black pudding scotch egg and Baron Bigod cheese and chutney, alongside the signature haddock and chips.
It also mentioned that guests can enjoy a walk north along the shingle beach and back through the ‘windmill-studded reedbeds.’
The Ship has 16 rooms, with varying categories of Good, Better, Best, Best Family and Snug, and start from around £90 a night.
