Ferry Road, which leads to the scene, is closed and the public has been asked to avoid the area.

In a social media post, Mrs T’s Fish and Chips said: “Not the news we wanted to get woken up to.

“But unfortunately, Mrs T's has caught in a fire on the harbour early hours of this morning.

“We are completely heartbroken.

“We want to thank the fire team for all their hard work throughout the night to put the blaze out.

“We will keep everyone updated via our socials as soon as we know more.”

This video of the fire was taken at about 1am today by K Godward, who heard two loud bangs.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

A fire service spokesman said: “Sadly, owing to their wooden construction the fire spread throughout the buildings and some have been destroyed, with others badly damaged.”

Crews used four light portable pumps, 10 main jets and three ground monitors.

Investigators are due on scene later today but the fire is not thought to be suspicious at this stage.
