Flood warnings and alerts issued across East Suffolk, affecting Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Southwold, Beccles and Bungay areas
Several flood warnings have been issued across East Suffolk today, with homes and businesses at risk.
East Suffolk Council posted on X stating that the coast at Southwold, Bawdsey Quay, Felixstowe Ferry, the A12 at Blythburgh and low lying properties on the Waveney are all under threat.
There are also alerts in place around the tidal Deben estuary and around the Suffolk Coast in general from Lowestoft to Bawdsey, at places such as Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Sizewell and Leiston.
A flood warning is where flooding is ‘expected’, whilst an alert signals where it is ‘possible.’
The warning at Southwold states flooding is most likely tonight (November 24) between 6pm and 8pm, with the most at risk areas being Southwold Harbour, Mights Road, Ferry Road and Queens Road.
It also extends slightly into Reydon, with Bridge Road and Hillside Road potentially in the firing line.
Flooding is also expected between 6pm and 8pm around the A12 at Blythburgh.
Towards Lowestoft, low lying properties on the Waveney in areas such as Oulton Broad, Beccles, Somerleyton and St Olaves are likely to be affected for at least the next 24 hours.
An accompanying warning extends to the Ellingham area, near Bungay.
The warning around the Felixstowe area states flooding is likely between 8.45pm and 10.45pm, concerning the aforementioned Bawdsey Quay and Felixstowe Ferry hamlet.
The accompanying alert for the tidal Deben estuary covers riverside areas around Woodbridge and Waldringfield.
