Cause of Southwold harbour blaze that engulfed Mrs T’s Fish and Chips, Sole Bay Fish Co and fishermen’s huts revealed as fundraiser launched

The cause of a huge fire which engulfed fish and chip shops and fishermen’s huts in a popular seaside town has been revealed – as a fundraiser has been launched to support one of the businesses.

The fire engulfed Mrs T’s Fish and Chips and neighbouring Sole Bay Fish Co at Blackshore Quay on Southwold harbour as well as eight huts in the early hours yesterday.

A number of gas cylinders exploded and about 55 firefighters battled the flames.

An investigation into the cause was held yesterday.

Today, a fire service spokeswoman said the blaze was accidental, and the cause was an electrical fault.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

A gofundme appeal has been launched to support Mrs T’s Fish and Chips.

Jasmine Webb, who organised the appeal, said: “They have had so much love and support on social media posts and many of you suggested a fundraiser.

“This will be to support the family, staff and buisness at this unfortunate time.”

A Facebook post from Mrs T’s last night said: “All of the staff at Mrs T's would like to thank each and every one for your kind words of support today.

“We haven't been able to answer everyone yet, but we have seen all your messages, and we are blown away with the amount of love we have received.”

This video of the fire was taken at about 1am today by K Godward, who heard two loud bangs during the incident.
