Newmarket Links Golf Club’s Siobhan O’Dwyer earns place at Junior World Golf Championships at Torrey Pines Golf Course

Siobhan O'Dwyer is set to fulfil her ‘dream’ of playing golf in the USA after securing a place at the Junior World Golf Championships.

The Links Golf Club’s rising star earned her ticket to compete against some of the best young players from across the globe by finishing runner-up at a qualifying event at St Ives Golf Club last month.

The 10-year-old, who attends Burwell Village College, said: “I’m very happy to have qualified. It’s always been my dream to play in America.

“I think my solid tee-to-green play and reading the tricky greens were the key to my success. Over the next few months, I’m going to focus on sharpening my short game and getting ready for the big stage.”

O’Dwyer’s success is also the source of great pride for the Newmarket-based golf club, who have a thriving youth section at present.

Junior organiser Naomi Pilmer said: “We are incredibly proud of Siobhan and her fantastic performance at the qualifier.

“She is a brilliant example of the young talent coming through our junior section, and her dedication to the game is inspiring. Everyone at Newmarket Links Golf Club will be cheering her on as she heads to San Diego to compete on the world stage.”

Meanwhile, O’Dwyer’s father Danny added: “Siobhan’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and love for golf.

“She puts in countless hours of practice, and it’s fantastic to see that effort paying off.

“We can’t wait to see her represent herself, her club, and her country in San Diego.”

The Junior World Championships, which will be played at the prestigious Torrey Pines Golf Course, is scheduled for July 5-10.
