George Boughey, George Scott, Charlie Fellowes and Thady Gosden to feature for Racing & Trainers XI team in charity contest against Newmarket Cricket Club

Many members of Newmarket’s racing fraternity will once again don their cricketing whites for charity on Sunday.

For the fourth time since the town’s cricket club was reformed, Newmarket CC will play host to a Racing & Trainers XI at their base in Dullingham.

The likes of George Boughey, George Scott, Charlie Fellowes and Thady Gosden are all set to feature in the 30-over contest, with the funds raised going to the Newmarket Housing Trust and the cricket club.

It is set to be the biggest event yet, featuring a raffle, silent auction, food vans, a licenced bar and plenty of activities for children.

Former trainer William Jarvis, who will once again lead the Racing & Trainers XI, said: “We’re all very excited about the game.

“All of our players will have had busy weeks leading up to the game so this is something for them to look forward to.

“We’re three down at the moment and while I’m not confident, we’d love to turn the tables!

“It is set to be a great day once again and the more people that turn up the better.”

Among the auction prizes on offer is a behind the scenes tour of ITV Racing, as well as signed memorabilia and hotel stays.

Newmarket first team captain Mark Nunn added: “This is going to be our biggest match yet and we’re hoping for a big crowd.

“Whether you’re into cricket or racing or both, this is the ideal game to come along and watch.

“It’s a family fun day, we’ve got some great prizes on offer and the cricket is always a good standard.”

This weekend the two teams will be playing for the Jordan Smith Memorial Cup in memory of the cricket club member and popular work rider who died last year.

Entry to the match is free of charge and gates open at 12pm.
