Manchester City's former Ipswich Town youngster Ben Knight signs loan deal with Crewe Alexandra
Reach-raised Ben Knight has signed a season-long loan deal with Crewe Alexandra – meaning he is likely to come up against his former club Ipswich Town this term.
Knight, who played for Burwell Tigers in his youth, left Ipswich in the summer of 2018 to join Premier League champions Manchester City for a fee believed to be in the region of £1m.
The 19-year-old has since impressed for City's under-18 and under-23 sides, and his development was rewarded earlier this month when manager Pep Guardiola handed Knight his first senior appearance as a substitute during the Community Shield against Leicester City at Wembley.
Knight, who recently signed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, wrote on Instagram after his debut: “Proudest moment of my football career so far to make my competitive debut for @mancity. Even more special for it to be at Wembley.
“It’s a privilege to work with these players. Hard work continues.”
And he will now continue to further hone his potential by spending the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign with the Railwaymen.
The attacking midfielder is set to be included in the Crewe squad for tomorrow's trip to Oxford United.
His reunion with Ipswich is scheduled for Sunday, November 28 at Portman Road, with the return fixture at Gresty Road due to take place on Saturday, April 23.
