Jack Brame aiming to continue clinical form with new club Mildenhall Town

New signing Jack Brame is relishing the pressure of being tasked with scoring the goals to help Mildenhall Town return to Step 4 at the first time of asking.

Following the arrival of Casey Phillips from rivals Newmarket Town, Mildenhall – relegated from the Bostik League North Division last term – announced the addition of Brame over the weekend.

The striker has joined Ricky Cornish’s side on the back of scoring 20 goals in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division for Walsham-le-Willows in 2018/19.

And he is eager to continue that clinical form in a Mildenhall shirt as the club targets an immediate return to the Bostik League set-up.

“Ricky wanted me to sign for Mildenhall when he came in (December 2018) but I was playing well for Walsham and we were flying at the time. I did not want to jump ship halfway through the season,” said the 26-year-old.

“But we had a chat again recently and I really bought in to what he had to say. He wants to go straight back up and I wanted to be a part of that – it is the sort of challenge I needed at this stage.

“The onus is going to be on me to score the goals we need to be challenging and I like to think I thrive off that sort of pressure.

“When things are not going right teams turn to their striker to dig them out and that is going to be my job.

“On a personal level last season was very pleasing. I had a long spell out with injury but it was great to stay fit and get back to scoring goals.

“Hopefully I can hit the ground running and get the goals to put the club up where it wants to be.”

While excited for the challenge ahead, Brame admitted that it had been tough to inform Walsham of his decision to move on.

Aside from a short stint with Bury Town, the forward had been a Walsham player since the age of 16.

“Walsham is a great club with fantastic people involved,” he added.

“It was very hard to leave because one thing Walsham have above anything else is togetherness. It is a really tight knit group and it was tough to walk away from that.

“I have made some great mates there and I will never forget what they have done for me, but I need a new challenge.

“I have been at the club a long time and while I would not say I had got stale, I just needed something else and Mildenhall is the right move.”
