Soham Town Rangers manager Alex Cross resigns after victory over Heacham in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division

Alex Cross has stepped down as manager of Soham Town Rangers.

The announcement of Cross’ departure was made shortly after the Greens had recorded a 4-3 win over Heacham in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division this afternoon.

Cross, who has indicated that he accepted a job offer elsewhere, took charge of Soham in November of last year.

He said in a statement: “It has been a great honour to manage Soham Town but all good things come to an end. Sometimes in life opportunities are presented to you that you can’t turn down and I certainly will miss everyone connected with the Greens.

“The club is full of excellent people who put so much time and effort into making the Julius Martin Lane become a place the community can use and be proud of. The structure below the first team is continuously growing and developing which is bringing solid foundations to help the club move forward, delivered through the hard work and dedication from the various committee members, vice0chairmen and chairman.

“I leave the club with an exciting playing squad that have shown their capabilities this season in various games and situations. I want to thank all the players past and present that have represented the club along with the excellent staff I have had the honour of working with and the supporters who have followed us relentlessly.

“The club has turned a corner over the past year both on and off the pitch, there are excellent foundations in place to ensure the only way is up and I wish everyone connected to Soham Town all the best for the future.”

In a statement of their own, the club added: “Ahead of today’s game with Heacham, Alex Cross made us aware of his intention to step down as first team manager.

“Whilst disappointed to receive Alex’s resignation, he leaves Julius Martin Lane with our grateful thanks and very best wishes as he pursues the new challenge that he has been offered in his professional footballing career.

“Since joining us a year ago, Alex has brought with him a very professional look to the first team, delivered some good results and a number of very memorable wins.

“He leaves a very different club to the one that he joined, both on and off the pitch, in what has been the beginning of a transitional period for Soham Town Rangers FC. We will immediately begin the process to recruit a new first team manager.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the right person, to join such an historic, well run and robust club that is at the very heart of the community of Soham.”

Lee Chaffey and Sam Spencer have agreed to take interim charge of first team affairs.
