Ely City boss eyeing upturn in results after tough run of Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division fixtures

Following a tough run of fixtures, manager Brady Stone is hoping his Ely City side can start to put some more points on the board.

The Robins have won just twice in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division this term – the most recent of which came back on August 6.

However, since then they have come up against some of the division’s biggest sides, including Wroxham, who ran out 1-0 winners at the Demcom Stadium on Saturday.

However, the fixture list is now a little bit kinder over the coming weeks, starting with Saturday’s trip to a Long Melford that are one position and three points better off than 16th-placed Ely (3pm).

“It has been a tough run of games but the only game we have not performed well in is the Mildenhall one (3-0 loss),” said Stone.

“Against Wroxham we worked hard and stayed in the game. They deserved to win but we gave a good account of ourselves.

“It has been hard, but now we have some games we need to start picking up points from.

“Melford are a really good bunch and we get on well with them. We always have close games with them.

“They have beaten us already this season so we need to go there and make sure we do the right things.”

Loan duo David Cooper (Mildenhall Town) and Johnny Herd (Peterborough Sports) have both linked up with Ely and made their debuts in the defeat to Wroxham.

Holders Ely will host Cambridge University Press in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
