Former Southend United player Johnny Herd joins Mildenhall Town on loan from Peterborough Sports
Mildenhall Town boss Ricky Cornish has bolstered his squad for the promotion run-in with the signing of a former Football League player on loan.
In recent weeks Cornish has had to be active in terms of recruitment as he bids to manage a number of ongoing injury problems.
Ryan Hawkins (Peterborough Sports) and David Hayes (Cambridge City) both featured in the 1-0 defeat at Gorleston earlier this month after agreeing loan moves, as did midfielder Lewis Hilliard (Peterborough Sports), who was named Man of the Match during the 1-0 loss to higher-league Leiston in the Turners Hyundai Suffolk Premier Cup quarter-finals.
And Cornish has now acquired another player from Step 3 outfit Peterborough Sports – namely Johnny Herd.
The 32-year-old full-back, who can also play in midfield, came through the ranks at Southend United and made more than 40 appearances for the Essex club before dropping into the non-league game with Ebbsfleet United, Bishop's Stortford, St Neots Town and most recently Peterborough.
Cornish said: "We're delighted to be bringing in another quality addition who will really add something to the squad and team.
"He's been a professional footballer and always played his football at a good standard.
"We're looking forward to him coming in and I know he's looking forward to being with us. He knows we've got something to play for and is keen to get involved.
According to the Sports website, Herd has featured on 23 occasions (17 starts) for them this term.
Third-placed Mildenhall, who are three points adrift of second-placed Gorleston and six behind table-topping Wroxham having played a game more than both, will play host to Mulbarton Wanderers on Saturday (3pm) – with Herd potentially being part of the matchday squad.
