Water feature will have to hang on

Newmarket town councillors have accepted they will only be able to ‘patch up’ the popular children’s water feature in the memorial gardens in time for this year’s summer holidays.

The long-term plan is to install a new feature and councillors are currently looking at quotes from two specialist companies.

The cost of the project could be as much as £65,000 depending on which installer is chosen, but on Monday councillors were told it was unlikely any work could be done in time for the summer.

“We need to make it limp along and a total refurbishment to get started in the autumn,” said Cllr Mick Jefferys.

Councillors also agreed to make a site visit to the July Racecourse to look at new play equipment being installed with a view to refurbising the memorial gardens play area.
