Museum’s gift from Royal fund

Newmarket’s National Horseracing Museum is celebrating after receiving a surprise £2,500 gift.

The cash has come from The Patron’s Fund set up to acknowledge the work of charitable organisations of which The Queen is patron, to mark of her 90th birthday.

The National Heritage Centre at Palace House. of which the museum is part, was opened by the Queen in November last year. Its director Chris Garibaldi said: “We are very proud of our patron, Her Majesty The Queen. Her love for racing has spanned nearly eight decades which is highlighted in the quality of the horses she has both bred and raced.

“Through the Patron’s Fund we will be able to instigate the conservation of a number of items from the permanent collection to enable these to go on public display. Fittingly these will include objects in our Royal connection display.”

Sir Stuart Etherington, chairman of the fund’s trustees, added: “The National Horseracing Museum is among hundreds of organisations for which The Queen acts as a patron, which between them make a difference to causes and communities in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth.”
