Final farewell to popular Newmarket tattoo artist as funeral cortege brings town centre to a standstill

Newmarket High Street came to a standstill as the funeral cortege for well-known town tattooist Garry Brown passed through.

The procession, on Monday, began at 1.15pm at the clock tower and was accompanied by around 30 motorcyclists and rat rod cars and many of his friends and customers lined the street to pay their respects.

Mr Brown, who was from Fulbourn, had run his Second Skin tattoo parlour in Sun Lane for 26 years. He died last month after a battle with brain cancer which had been diagnosed in April. His funeral was held at the Cam Valley Crematorium in Saffron Walden.

One woman watching the procession said: “He was always very nice and I was shocked when I heard about his illness. It is so sad for him and his family. He will be missed.”
