Cheveley pupils have designs on national coach competition

Two schoolchildren have reached the final stages of a nationwide art competition that could see their work splashed across the side of a coach – and local people have the chance to vote for them to win.

Mia Lynch and Esther Walden, both aged 10 and pupils at Cheveley Primary School, have been shortlisted by judges in National Express’s Colour the Coach competition, for designing colourful posters encouraging people to visit Newmarket.

Diane Kingdon, the girls’ headteacher said: “Both girls are thrilled to have reached this stage of the competition and would urge the public to visit the wonderful town of Newmarket, the home of Horseracing.

“As part of their school curriculum they have recently visited a stud to learn about breeding, visited Palace House Museum to explore the history of Newmarket and it’s links with racing and even had a fabulous day at the races.

“It has clearly inspired them and to win this competition would simply be the icing on the cake for them.

“Please vote for our girls Esther and Mia.”

Children aged between five and 15 were invited by National Express to submit their designs turned for a special one-off coach livery. This year, the young artists were asked to design a poster to encourage people to visit their hometown.

A winner will be chosen from four English regions the North, the South, the East and the Midlands as well as Wales and Scotland.
