Half Moon Park in Mildenhall to receive improvement work costing £37,000 in bid to broaden its appeal

Improvement work costing £37,000 is set to get under way at a park in a Suffolk town in a bid to broaden its appeal.

Work to make Half Moon Park in Mildenhall more accessible, enjoyable and secure will start on Monday, with improvements planned to its entrance, paths, grass areas, benches and bins.

The park, which sits between Bury Road and Thetford Road in the east of the town, will remain open throughout the works scheduled for two months, although there will be some disruption.

The improvements to the two-acre site are being paid for with £37,000 from the Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund.

Cllr Ian Shipp, cabinet member for leisure at West Suffolk Council, who also represents the Mildenhall Kingsway and Market ward of the town, said: “This is a significant area of green space that we are looking to make more accessible, enjoyable and secure for local residents to visit.”

“Our parks and open spaces across West Suffolk help support our resident’s physical and mental health whether as a place to play, to run, to go for a walk and recharge or enjoy a summertime picnic.

“They are also home to an array of wildlife, both fora and fauna.”

“Half Moon Park is a green area that is perhaps underutilised, but it is my view that we can make it better for residents of all ages and encourage greater use – and step one is the work that we will be undertaking over the coming weeks.”

Cllr Shipp added: “There will be some inevitable disruption while this takes place, but the park will remain open.

“I ask local residents to bear with us while we make these improvements and get the work done.”
