Swimming pool at Mildenhall Hub to close for one day next week for repairs
A public swimming pool at a town hub is set to close for one day next week for repairs.
Two lanes of the main pool at the Mildenhall Hub have been closed since Monday afternoon after a split in the lining was discovered.
Wrightfield Pools, who installed the pool, will carry out repairs to the liner defect and welded joint on Tuesday.
It follows similar repairs in March when the pool had to shut for two weeks so that the entire pool could be emptied, checked, refilled and the water tested before reopening.
The repairs then, and those scheduled for Tuesday, are all covered under warranty as is the loss of income to Abbeycroft.
The learner pool will remain open along with all other facilities at the leisure centre.
Cllr Ian Shipp, cabinet member for leisure at West Suffolk Council and ward councillor for Mildenhall Kingsway and Market, said: “Wrightfield have told us that the pool will only need to be shut for a day.
“We appreciate this latest repair and the closure of two lanes from earlier this week is frustrating for pool users as it is for us and Abbeycroft as well. The work is being carried out under warranty and will have no impact on taxpayers.
“It is our and Abbeycroft’s expectation that the work by Wrightfield this time around will resolve the issue, preventing the need for any further closures in the near future.”
Tracey Loynds, operations director at Abbeycroft, added: “We will be contacting customers directly with information about their swimming lessons or bookings, however, we are hoping to move most of the bookings into our learner pool for the day so that disruption is minimal.”
