A crew from Brandon has since taken over to monitor the site.

The decision to allow the fire to burn in a controlled manner was made jointly by the fire service and the Environment Agency.

It was agreed that extinguishing the fire could pose a greater environmental risk due to water runoff as the site is close to the River Kennett.
