Works progressing at Port of Lowestoft’s Outer Harbour ahead of spring 2024 end date
Works at a Suffolk town port have progressed ahead of a spring 2024 end date.
Construction at the Port of Lowestoft, operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), has commenced with piling works, which started midway through November, which is approximately 20 per cent completed at present.
The piling aspect of the project remains on track to be completed by May 2024.
Works are currently suspended until January 8 next year in consideration of the festive period.
Tom Duit, operations manager at ABP’s Port of Lowestoft, said: “As we have previously stated, ABP is committed to keeping our community informed, as part of our commitment to being a good neighbour, and we are pleased with how the installation of the piling is progressing.
“We will be providing further updates in the new year.”
The project is aimed at enhancing the Outer Harbour’s infrastructure.
Construction is being done under the supervision of McLaughlin and Harvey, the contractor appointed by ABP to lead the project.
It is hoped that the works at the port will boost the town and help it continue to grow as a centre for supporting the offshore energy industry.
The Port of Lowestoft is home to the Operations and Maintenance Base for the Greater Gabbard Offshore Windfarm, a 504 megawatt windfarm.
ABP operates two other ports in East Anglia, at Ipswich and Kings Lynn.
